What makes our academics different

📖
Deep Literacy
Scholars read, discuss, debate, and write extensively. We believe strong readers and writers are the foundation of every other academic skill.
Math Mastery
Mastery-based math progression means scholars move forward when they truly understand — not just when the calendar says so.
🔬
Science and Inquiry
Real labs, real specimens, real experiments. Scholars don't just read about science — they do it, from dissections to engineering challenges.
🌍
History as It Happened
We teach history as history — not a sanitized version of it. Scholars learn Black American history through the eyes of Black America, drawing from resources like YourAfricanHistory.com and Oh Freedom! We want our scholars to know the full story of who they are and where they come from.
🎨
Arts Integration
Creative expression is woven throughout the curriculum. Scholars present, perform, build, and design as part of their regular learning experience.
♟️
Critical Thinking and Rhetoric
We use The Art of Argument to develop scholars who think, question, and reason — not just memorize. Through Socratic-style discussion, scholars learn to build arguments, examine evidence, and engage in rigorous dialogue. By grades 6 and up, scholars participate in Socratic seminars, journaling, and begin preparing for research-level writing by year's end.
