Our Story

About Young Laureates

We are a community of educators, families, and scholars committed to redefining what education looks like for Black children in Henry County and beyond.

Born from a bold vision.

Young Laureates was founded in 2024 by Quatavia Wilkins-Johnson and Torri McHellen — two educators who believed that Black children deserved more than what the traditional system was offering. They envisioned a learning center where scholars were known by name, celebrated for who they are, and challenged to reach their full potential.

What started as a conversation became a community. Today, Young Laureates is a fully accredited learning center in McDonough, GA, serving scholars in Grades K-9 with a program built around academic excellence, cultural identity, and a deep belief that every child is capable of greatness.

"Every scholar deserves to be seen, known, and celebrated — not just educated."

The Three Pillars of Young Laureates

Embrave
Courage to Try
We create a space where scholars feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. Bravery in learning means trying hard things even when they feel uncertain — and knowing their community has their back.
Embrace
Identity and Community
Every scholar is welcomed fully — their culture, their story, their way of thinking. We embrace who our scholars are and build curriculum that reflects, affirms, and celebrates Black identity and excellence.
Empower
Knowledge and Agency
We equip scholars with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to shape their own future. From STEM to literacy to civic engagement, our scholars graduate with the tools to lead, create, and serve.
🎓
GAC Accredited — Georgia Accrediting Commission
Young Laureates is fully accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC). Our accreditation means our curriculum, facilities, and academic standards have been independently verified to meet Georgia's highest educational benchmarks.
